We are now accepting applications for the Backyard Bloom Boost program!

This program promotes the conversion of Rock Island County's landowner's non-native grass lawns into habitat that beautifies yards, reduces chemical use, and provides valuable habitat for Monarch Butterflies and other pollinator species. Residents who apply for the program will receive free Illinois native plants and technical assistance to install and maintain their garden planting for a three-year period.

Steam on Wheels can provide labor to residents with limited mobility to help install the garden sites.

Applications will be accepted through March 15, 2026. Funding is limited to 10 plantings in 2026 and the application period will close early once all 10 spots are filled. Apply early to ensure you are considered!
